Aboard the Swampy

As every sailor knows, even the best laid plans can go wrong if the weather isn't with you.

Not on this occasion though.

BYC's Open Day was held in glorious sunshine with light westerly winds, creating ideal conditions for anyone who had never been sailing before.

We feel sure that Howard Lavis, who organised the event, has influence in high places!

Sailing Fleet

We had nearly 40 visitors on the day. Families and children were able to try their hand at sailing, in many cases for the first time.

One very young 'sailor' was a little reluctant to wear a life jacket but at the end of the day decided he wanted to keep it.

When the crews finally returned to shore they enjoyed the refreshments that had been prepared in the Clubhouse.

The sailing experience was a huge success and during the afternoon several visitors showed an interest in joining the club.

Visitors on slipway

Yacht Club members, took our visitors sailing for 2-3 hours out in the Bristol Channel.
